01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located in the heart of Batu Pahat, Johor Darul Ta'zim, Mei Xiang Ji Restaurant is a cherished destination for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine, specializing in the much-revered field frog (田鸡) delicacies. This beloved eatery offers a culinary experience that has captivated both locals and visitors, bringing timeless flavors and homestyle cooking to your table.

At Mei Xiang Ji, the star attraction is undoubtedly the 田鸡粥 (field frog porridge), a dish praised for its silky, smooth porridge paired with tender, flavorful frog meat that melts in your mouth. As one customer eloquently put it, it is a rare delight compared to the usual Thai-style frog dishes, boasting a fresh and deeply satisfying taste that sets it apart. The savory broth infused into the porridge reveals layers of comforting warmth that invite you to savor every spoonful.

Beyond the iconic porridge, the menu features other crowd-pleasers such as 菜脯鱼 (preserved radish fish), delightfully balanced with savory and subtle tangs, and the savory 鸡精田鸡 (chicken essence steamed frog), which delivers an aroma and taste that is both delicate and rich. The 咸蛋苦瓜 (salted egg bitter gourd) stands out with its unique preparation — the bitter gourd is fried with a coating of salted egg, creating a luscious crispy texture that perfectly complements the bitterness of the vegetable. Meanwhile, dishes like the fragrant black pepper pork and classic Fuzhou-style fried noodles round out a diverse menu that satisfies those craving both subtle and bold flavors.

Reviewers consistently praise Mei Xiang Ji not only for its impeccable flavors but also for its generous portions and reasonable pricing, making it a haven for casual family dinners and friendly gatherings alike. The ambiance offers an inviting and unpretentious atmosphere, ideal for quietly indulging in these comfort foods without distraction. It's the kind of place where food takes center stage, and every bite reminds you why some dishes become time-honored favorites.

If you find yourself in Batu Pahat and want to treat your palate to something truly special, Mei Xiang Ji Restaurant promises an experience rich with flavor, tradition, and genuine hospitality — a true culinary gem that celebrates the soul of Chinese dining in Malaysia.

The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food, for me, is just okay considering the price. Not as amazing as I thought it would be. But it's definitely better than average, and I guess it's unique and hard to find another shop that sells the same thing in Batu Pahat, which I guess is why it's more expensive in town.

由老板一家人经验和掌厨,每一道菜都非常好味。我们都吃得津津有味。尤其鸡精蒸田鸡的酒味和药材味都很够。非常香。虽然我不吃田鸡,我只try它的汤汁都很好喝。
